Directory methodology

What do the listing labels mean?

This directory uses a research-based confidence system. A listing's label reflects the strength of public evidence connecting the owner, founder or professional to Muslim identity. It is not a rating of the business itself.

Confirmed What does “Confirmed” mean?

“Confirmed” is reserved for records with direct or comparably strong public evidence. Examples include an owner or professional explicitly identifying as Muslim, a credible directory recording owner confirmation, or membership in a Muslim professional body whose membership criterion itself is based on self-identification.

Strongly supported What does “Strongly supported” mean?

“Strongly supported” means there is meaningful community evidence, such as an explicit statement from a reputable Muslim community organization or several independent community sources, but the research did not find the same level of direct owner-side confirmation.

Needs verification What does “Needs verification” mean?

These records are leads, not claims of Muslim ownership or Muslim identity. A business may have appeared in a Muslim directory, halal market or festival, mosque/community recommendation, Islam-filtered professional search, or another relevant discovery source. Those signals make the listing worth investigating, but do not prove the owner's religion.

Why doesn't “halal” automatically mean “Muslim-owned”?

Halal status describes products or food practices, not necessarily who owns the business. The research deliberately kept those concepts separate so a halal restaurant is not automatically labelled Muslim-owned without additional evidence.

Why include listings that still need verification?

The research used a “recall first, verification second” approach. Potentially relevant names are kept as an investigation queue instead of being discarded, while their lower-confidence status is shown clearly so visitors are not misled.

Can an owner update or correct a listing?

Yes. Open any profile and use “Claim this profile” or “Suggest an edit.” Owner confirmation and better public evidence can be used to update the listing and its confidence level.

Important: Confidence refers only to the evidence behind Muslim ownership or Muslim professional identity. It does not endorse service quality, halal certification, licensing, or current business status.
